A man who is currently serving life for the murder has today been sentenced to a further life term in jail.

At a sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Limerick today, 26 year old Gary Campion was sentenced to life for the murder of Frankie Ryan in Moyross in 2006. Mr Campion was found guilty by jury last month of the death of Ryan, who was 21 years old.

Speaking in a victim impact statement today, Frankie Ryan’s mother, Catherine, told the court and his killer that the night her son was shot dead would stick in all of their heads forever saying, “Frankie died in the prime of his life, robbed of the chance of having his own family”. “My heart is broken, never to be mended”, she added.

Mr. Ryan was shot in the back of the head as he sat in his car at the Pineview Gardens estate on September 17th, 2006 in an execution-style killing. During the trial the presiding judge described the case as a murder case “wholly different from any other”.

Mr. Campion is already serving a life term for the murder of night club doorman Brian Fitzgerald, who was gunned down in November 2002.

Now if they lock -up the rest of the sc*mbags for life and then the people of limerick can live in peace.Put them all in one cell and give them a couple of knifes and a few guns and save us all a lot of money. The last one standing gets to spend the rest of his sc*mbag life locked up all by his lonesum. The partys that would happen if that happened would be somethink to tell the grandkids.

Don’t get too excited Lads, this sentence runs concurrently with the life sentence he got for Brian Fitzgerald’s murder. Which begs the question, why have the second trial at all? He’ll be eligible for parole in 6 years
