The Mayor of Limerick has said he thinks Dell will “stick to their word” after a company official said this week that the remaining 1,000 jobs at its Raheen facility are safe.
Sean Corkery, Vice President at Dell EMEA Manufacturing Operations made comments this week,
“There are still 1,000 employees in the campus and I think we should remember that. We are still a very large employer, we intend to remain that way and we want to move on now. I think they [1,000 workers] are doing a good job, an important job and we want to keep it that way.”
The company cut a massive 1,900 jobs at the Raheen plant in January when they announced all manufacturing operations were moving to Poland followed by a further 100 jobs cut in March.
Limerick Mayor Kevin Kiely had some wishful thinking in response to the news saying, “1,000 jobs are guaranteed there and I would hope in the future Dell would build on that.”
Both men were speaking following a meeting between the two.
Much more on the meeting in todays Irish Examiner.
