Gardai in the county are investigating a shooting incident which occurred near Rathkeale early Thursday morning.
A man in his early twenties sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder during the incident at a house near Rathkeale around 4am. Gardai and ambulance services were called to the scene at Reen’s Pike where they discovered the injured man. He was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
A number of persons, including elderly people were believed to have been in the house at the time of the shooting however nobody else was injured. The house and the area around the scene were cordoned off for technical examination Thursday.
Nobody has been arrested however local radio reported a car which was found abandoned near the scene may be linked to the incident.
