Andy Lee has enhanced his chances of earning a European title shot following a victory over Affif Belghecham at the UL sports arena in Limerick Saturday night.

The 25 year old Castleconnel man, who was fighting his third professional fight in Limerick, looked frustrated at times by the defensive style of the Frenchman.

He did manage to connect with solid body shots mid way through the bout and looked in control most of the fight, which ended up going the whole ten rounds. Belghecham came out guns blazing in the final two rounds but it was not enough and the dominant Lee won by a unanimous points decision of 99 – 92.

Elsewhere on the card it was a great night for two other Limerick men, Willie Casey and Jamie Power who both won their fights by stoppage.

Casey, who was fighting his third professional fight, defeated Michael O’Gara after the fight was stopped in the last round. The featherweight said he was delighted with his performance.

An emotional Jamie Power dedicated his win over Aleksandrs Dunecs to his cousin who died during the summer. The 28 year old rattled his opponent in the 4th round with a series of combination strikes which proved too much for the Latvian. The fight was then stopped shortly into the 5th round.
