There are further fears of flooding in affected areas after the ESB confirmed Wednesday it would increase flows of water discharging from Parteen weir down the river Shannon towards Limerick.
“Householders are in flood prone areas are reminded to remain alert to flooding risks and to have a “Family Flood Plan” in case of deterioration in conditions,” Limerick County Council said in a statement Wednesday

Limerick city council has said there is no immediate threat of flooding to properties within their administrative area however pedestrian walkways along the canal and city quays are still closed and members of the public are advised not to use them until further notice. The Old Cratloe Road is closed behind the Radisson Hotel near due to flooding there.
The situation in the south east Clare area, including the Shannon Banks where 22 families have already been evacuated, has been described by crisis management officials as “dynamic”.The Defence Forces say they have 182 personnel and 30 vehicles deployed in Cork, Ennis, Limerick, Gort, Ballinasloe, Athlone and Athy providing emergency assistance to civil authorities for flood relief.
Meanwhile Water services to Thomond Student Village in Castletroy have now been restored. The supply was cut Monday due to the rising water levels on the Shannon which caused sewerage problems.
