Sandbags are to be deployed along the Quays in Limerick City as the council prepares for possible flooding later this week.
The City Council said in a statement Tuesday evening that it has now decided to deploy sandbags at vulnerable points along the Quays from Merchant’s Quay to the Shannon Bridge at Mallow Street and at Verdant Place as a precautionary measure in view of the predicted high tides.
Some sandbags have already been placed at the low-lying areas of Lucas Drive in Corbally, parts of Mill Road, Siul na hAbhann Housing Estate, Meadowbrook and parts of the Corbally Road around Cooney’s Garage.
Limerick City Manager Tom Mackey had said Monday that the city “may have some issues” as high tides of up to 6.8 meters were due.
