A furniture and flooring warehouse has been destroyed following a major fire in the city overnight.
Fire services from Limerick, backed up by units from Clare, spent much of early Monday morning battling the blaze that engulfed ‘Eastpoint Furniture and Flooring’ at the Eastpoint retail park on the Ballysimon Road.
Firefighters were called to the scene around 1.45am and struggled to contain the blaze. It was a number of hours before the fire was brought under control. It’s understood thousands of euro worth of stock has been lost.
The store owner, Tony Cowell spoke to the Liemrick Leader Monday,
“The building is completely destroyed. We have lost everything. It was a fully stocked showroom and we were in the Christmas rush,” said Mr Cowell, adding the business was just beginning to “see a positive turn” after a challenging period for Irish retailers.
“For people who have orders with us, I want to tell them we will be able to fulfil customer orders,” he said.
