Seven arrested as murder probe is launched
A murder investigation has been launched after a man was shot dead in an attack in County Limerick Tuesday night.
The incident happened near Beary’s Cross just off the main N24 Tipperary Road at around 9.30pm. It’s understood the victim sustained a number of gunshot wounds to the upper body and head.
Armed Gardai from Limerick City were called to the scene and the victim was rushed to the Mid Western Regional hospital in Dooradoyle, however its believed he was pronounced dead on arrival. Reports say the 24 year old victim was living in the area of Caherconlish.
Gardai have confirmed that a 19 year old man, a 38 year old woman and two other juvenile females have been arrested as part of the investigation into the murder. All four are being held at Garda stations across the city under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Investigators would not comment on a motive for the attack at this early stage. National radio reports say the victim was living in a caravan near the scene of the shooting.
The area around the shooting has been sealed off including a number of houses and technical examinations will begin Wednesday morning. The State Pathologist’s Office has been notified.
Meanwhile Gardai are investigating after a number of shots were fired at a house in Fairview Crescent, Garryowen just hours after the fatal shooting. Investigators are trying to establish whether both incidents are linked.

A further three people have been arrested as Gardai say they have made significant progress in their investigation. The victim of Tuesday night’s murder has been named as 24 year old Daniel Fitzgerald.
Gardai revealed Wednesday that three more men, all in their twenties, were arrested in Limerick earlier in the day. They are currently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act at Mayorstone, Bruff and Henry Street Garda Stations. Seven people are now in custody in relation to the murder.

An eight person has been arrested in relation to the murder according to reports Thursday. The man was arrested late Wednesday night.
