Gardai were continuing to question a man following the discovery of €70,000 worth of heroin in Castletroy Monday night. The man in his thirties was arrested after the drug was seized at a house in the Briarfield estate. He is being held at Henry Street Garda Station under the Drug trafficking Act.
Comedian Tommy Tiernan has announced eight comedy gigs in Limerick. The award winning comic will play at locations across the county including Adare, Templeglantine and Kilmallock along with the city venues of Thomond Park Stadium, The Strand Hotel, St John’s Church, Dolans and the Southill Area Centre. Limerick City Council’s Flood Crisis Management Team has been stood down following the recent flood warnings. The council said Monday afternoon that it had “decided to stand down as the level of Shannon River returns to normal levels.” The City Council said it “appreciates the support of the local community” over the past two weeks.

A 61 year old former Christian Brother who was convicted of indecently assaulting nineteen boys at a school in Limerick in the 1960s was jailed for two years on Wednesday. Sean John Drummond had pleaded guilty to the 36 counts of indecent assault which occured while he worked at Creagh Lane National School.
The Mayor of Limerick has told local radio that a boundary extension would be the only successful outcome for the city. His comments come after it was announced that a committee has been established known as the ‘Limerick Local Government Committee’ which will examine overall Limerick governance at both county and city levels. It is expected to make a number of recommendations to the Department of Environment and could call for a possible boundary extension of Limerick into parts of South East Clare. In Mayo the Castlebar Joint Policing Committee has heard from a Garda Superintendent who says Castlebar is being targeted by ‘major’ drugs gangs from Limerick, Galway and Sligo. “They come in with their supplies and offload them to smaller individuals doing the running for them in Castlebar.
