Man charged over Fitzgerald death

A man has been charged with the murder of Daniel Fitzgerald who was shot dead in Co. Limerick last Tuesday

19 year old Kenneth Collopy with an address at Kilonan in Ballysimon appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court late Monday night charged with the murder of the 24 year old carpenter who was gunned down near Beary’s Cross on Tuesday the 8th of December.

The young father had sustained a number of fatal gunshot wounds to his upper body and head.

The court was told the accused made no reply when formally charged Monday evening. Bail is a matter for the High Court due to the seriousness of the charge. Mr. Collopy was granted free legal aid and remanded to appear in Court again on December 17th.

There was a visible armed Garda presence as the accused arrived and departed Limerick District court Monday evening.
