Limerick man critically injured in county road crash

A Limerick man remains in an intensive care unit following a road accident in the county.

The single car accident happened early morning hours of the New Year on a rural road in Ballyhahill in the north west of the county.

The 25 year old was believed to be the only occupant of the car when it careered off the road, leaving him with serious upper body and head injuries. Fire services and ambulances attended the scene and the victim was transferred to the regional hospital in Dooradoyle where he remains on life support.

Gardai closed the road for a short time while technical examinations of the scene were carried out and investigators are appealing for any witnesses with information to contact them at Askeaton Garda station on 601630.

The 25 year old driver injured in the crash has died in hospital, Gardai have said. The victim has been named as Noel Hayes of Shanagolden.
