Labour’s local election poll topper James Heffernan has been announced as the party’s General Election candidate for the newly redrawn constituency of Limerick, formally known as Limerick West.
The 30 year old primary school teacher and Councillor on Limerick County Council was elected with ease in 2009 in the Kilmallock electoral area during the local elections. The Kilfinane man was elected on the first count.
The Labour party says he was the only nominee at a selection convention in Kilmallock on Monday night, which was chaired by party Justice Spokesperson Pat Rabbitte.
In the 2007 general election Heffernan ran as the party’s youngest candidate nationally and polled over 5% of first preference votes.
