A man remained in Garda custody Monday night while another man appeared in court charged with drugs offences following the seizure of heroin over the weekend.

Around 8pm Saturday evening Gardai from the Limerick divisional drugs unit swooped on an area of Ballysimon where they arrested two men, one from Limerick and another from Kildare. Just over half a kilogram of heroin, which Gardai say has an approximate street value of nearly €90,000, was seized during the operation.

Both men were arrested under drugs legislation and brought to Henry Street Garda station for questioning.

At a special sitting of Limerick District Court Monday, one of the men, a 27 year old with an address in Celbridge, Co. Kildare, appeared charged with possession of a substance and possession with intent to sell or supply.

Bail was not objected to by Gardai and he is due to appear again in court on Thursday. Another man from the north side of Limerick remained in Garda custody.
