There were fears Saturday that a body found washed up along the river Shannon Friday afternoon may be that of a missing Limerick man.
The remains of a man believed to be in his late 40’s was discovered by a farmer on the banks of the Shannon at Portdrine, near Cratloe. The body was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital where a post mortem is expected to be carried out.
Officers fear the remains may be that of missing 48 year old Francie Greene who was last seen at his apartment on Hartstonge Street in the city over two months ago.
Gardai now wait for post mortem results carried out on the body to see if they can assist them with their inquiries into the disappearance of Mr. Greene.
Investigators probing Mr. Greene’s disappearance previously detained a 27 year old man for questioning. He was subsequently released and a file is being prepared for DPP in relation to the matter.
