A man has died following a road accident in west County Limerick Sunday night.
The victim, in his 50’s, was struck by a car at Sweeps Cross, Coolanoran on the N21 outside of Newcastle West around 7.30pm.
Emergency services from Rathkeale and Newcastle West rushed to the incident however the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A male pedestrian aged in his 50s was fatally injured when struck by a passing motor car. This followed an earlier minor collision which occurred some minutes earlier at the same location,” a Garda spokesperson said late Sunday.
The main Limerick to Tralee road remained closed in both directions overnight while forensic collision investigators carried out technical examinations of the scene.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact Askeaton Garda station on 601630.

The victim has been named as 52 year old Michael Scanlon of Dirreen Cross, Athea.
