A man has appeared in court charged in connection with a shooting incident earlier this week.

Shane Mason appeared at Limerick District Court Saturday under heavy armed protection, charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life, following a shooting last Monday which left a 20 year old man fighting for his life.

The 28 year old, who has an address at Sean Heuston Place in Limerick, was arrested by Gardai just hours after 20 year old Daniel Phillips was shot in the head and torso by a gunman on a bike, as he sat in a car with friends in Johns Square in the city centre.

He was picked up by Gardai at St Johns Court, Brennans Row, just around the corner form the shooting scene.

In court Saturday Mr. Mason was granted free legal, did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to appear again via video link from Limerick prison next Thursday. Phillips remains in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital.
