Limerick County Council has opened a Book of Condolences in memory of those who were killed during the storming of a flotilla transporting humanitarian aid to Gaza earlier in the week.

Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council, Cllr. David Naughton said he was “shocked and saddened” at the loss of life incurred during the attack on unarmed civilians on board the flotilla ship, the ‘Mavi Marmara’.

“On behalf of the people of County Limerick, I would like to express my condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families”, he said.

The Book of Condolences is available for signing at Limerick County Hall in Dooradoyle, and will remain open from 9.30am to 4.30pm each day until Friday next, June 11th.

One of the hundreds detained by Israeli defence forces following the incident was Fiachra Ó’Luain, a former student of Language and Cultural Studies at the University Of Limerick.

He has been deported by Israeli authorities.
