Two men and three women have been detained by detectives investigating the murder of Lee Slattery who was found shot dead last week.
It’s understood two people were detained in an operation at a city center apartment complex just off William Street in the city, while a three more were detained on the north side of the city.
The arrests of the suspects who are all in their twenties were made between 7am and 8am Thursday morning.
They are being held on suspicion of withholding information regarding the murder of 24 year old Slattery, who was found May 31st, shot to death in a shallow grave behind Moyross, days after he was reported missing.
All five are being held at separate Garda stations around the city.
Separately Gardai targeting criminal activity searched a house on Shanabooley Road in Ballynanty Wednesday evening and discovered a handgun and 15 rounds of ammunition.
No arrests were made during the search and investigations are said to be continuing.
